Background information about Claire Warner.

Claire specialises in actively teaching painting techniques, explaining the planning before the painting, through the key stages, and step-by-step demonstrations to achieve the desired results with a finished painting.

She works as a professional artist, exhibiting mainly in Northamptonshire, Berkshire and the Cotswolds, but also in the West Country. She paints freely in watercolour, oils, and acrylics, and takes on local scenes, buildings and a variety of landscape commissions for shops, galleries, companies and individuals throughout the country.

Claire won first prize in a national competition for her teaching entitled ‘Art for Therapy’. She develops and runs courses for students of all abilities and levels around the country. Her gentle step-by-step approach enables students to produce first class finished pictures in just one day.

Her aim is that you not only enjoy a relaxing and fun filled holiday in a beautiful location with good company, but also learn new techniques and achieve an advanced level of painting in watercolour. This painting holiday however, is suitable for ALL levels of ability, not just the experienced artists.

Her paintings have found their way into homes and places of work and recreation throughout the world. She has produced more than 40 original watercolour illustrations for a childrens’ book entitled ’The Tails of Molly and Ria’ by Jane Lock.

She has an extensive range of limited edition prints of her work, which are also sold in galleries and shops and tourist information centres around the United Kingdom, and are available by mail order.
Claire has been awarded an Arts Initiative Grant by Wellingborough Council for her oil painting, and now includes oil in her range of painting workshops as well as watercolour and acrylic.

We will be painting and sketching “plein air”. Capturing the atmosphere of the scene
is best achieved this way. Claire will be demonstrating and assisting where necessary for the entire day when we are painting, and will be committed to making your painting experience as pleasurable and productive as possible.

“One of the greatest pleasures for me about painting is not only showing artists ways to achieve successful results with encouragement and perseverance, but particularly how to “enjoy the journey”.

Background information about Tony Slater.

Tony is the official UK demonstrator for Sennelier Extra Fine Watercolours and Isabey and Raphael Brushes.

He is a Studio Associate of the Trevor Waugh Studio and a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists. He is also a founder member and past chairman of The Kirby Bellars Group of Artists based near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

Tony began painting in the 1970’s and, apart from seeking instruction from those artists whose work he admires, he is completely self taught.

It is Tony's great love of, and expertise in, painting water-colour, together with his communication skills, that has led him into the teaching of water-colour.  In the last fifteen years he has acquired an enviable reputation in this field, proving himself able to pass on not only the basics of painting but his own techniques, hints and tips in a way that gives confidence to beginners, and for those with some experience, can make a reasonable painting good, and a good painting great.

He regularly runs workshops, teaches painting courses and demonstrates at the annual Patching's Farm Art Festival in Nottinghamshire. His aim is always to promote confidence, increase skill, but - and this is of prime importance to him - also to help his students enjoy their painting.

Tony also exhibits regularly, his paintings now forming part of collections in many countries of the world. His work has featured in International Artist Magazine, while Leisure Painter commission and publish articles by him.
